There’s no stronger endorsement than word of mouth! Referrals can be an incredible boon to your real estate business and help grow your reputation. They can come from previous clients, your network, or other connections who believe in you and what you do — and a good review can make all the difference.
If you go the extra mile to show your referrers how much you appreciate them, you can strengthen your relationship and even guarantee more referrals in the future. But to do that, you’ll have to keep track of where they’re coming from. Let’s go over some of the best ways to track your inbound referrals on Follow Up Boss and do your part to pay it forward.
This setup requires admin access and owner access to an account, so make sure you have both before you begin.
First, go to the Admin tab at the very top, then select More Custom Fields. From here, you can add two new custom fields — we’ll call the first one Referred From Custom.
You can use this field to track clients who were referred by another person. When you use this field, you’ll insert the referrer’s name; for instance, Referred From Elena. You’ll also want to fill in the Source Name, in this case, as Referral.
The second field will be called Referrals Sent, and lets you track how many new referrals you receive from a single contact. This will give you a handy point of reference, and also give you the opportunity to reward your top referrers for their loyalty.
It can be helpful to further organize your system by labeling Personal Referrals versus Agent Referrals, or a recommendation from a fellow real estate agent. Agent referrals can be especially salient in a world where professional integrity is everything.
Let’s say you want to reach out to your top referrers with a custom thank-you. With your contacts labeled, you can create a Smart List to do the work for you. First you’ll go to the People tab, then filter for contacts with the custom field Referrals Sent. You can do this by indicating the number of referrals should be greater than zero.
Once you’ve done this, you can add the custom field as a column in the People screen. Start by clicking on Columns, then the Custom Fields category, and check the box that will show Referrals Sent. Your contacts marked with Referrals Sent should now appear on screen. You can click and drag it to the top of the list, then click the Custom Fields button on the column and sort from most to least. From there, you can view which contacts of yours have made the most referrals.
